Making an appointment at Norfolk Medical Group is quite easy.

Kinds of medical appointments

Routine appointments

Physicals, annual gynecological (GYN) exams, and non-urgent health concerns (e.g., skin problems, back or joint pain, sleep problems, and medication refills) are considered routine medical appointments. In some cases (e.g., physicals, and GYN exams) you will be asked to complete a specific health history form before your appointment.

Same or next-day appointments

For more urgent health concerns that cannot wait for a routine appointment, call as early in the day as possible to schedule an appointment that will fit into your plans for the day.

Specialty care appointments

For an appointment with any of our specialty medical services, call ahead to schedule an appointment at a convenient time. Specialty medical services include allergy shots, immunizations, HIV antibody testing, nutrition/eating concerns, sports medicine, occupational medicine, travel services, etc.

Remember when scheduling an appointment

  • Your health care is confidential. From your first contact with us to schedule an appointment, your health information is protected according to Norfolk Medical Group's privacy policy.
  • When you make an appointment, explain what your needs are so our staff can schedule an appointment of the appropriate length of time and with the appropriate provider. If you would like to request or change your primary care provider, we'll do our best to meet your needs.
  • Be sure to call Norfolk Medical Group if you are unable to keep an appointment.

Making the most of your appointment

Make a list of your symptoms. Tell your health care provider when the symptoms began, how they have progressed, and any changes you have noticed.

Be prepared to answer a series of questions about your health history, allergies, habits, and use of medications, etc. Bring your medications with you in their original bottles. Please understand that good medical care requires us to ask women if they may be pregnant, to ensure that X-rays or medications will not pose risks to a developing fetus.

Feel free to ask questions about your symptoms, prognosis, follow-up care, side effects of treatments, costs, sources of support, or any personal concerns.

Bring a friend, when needed, for personal support or assistance with transportation.

If you need a translator, bring one with you or tell us when you make your appointment and we will make arrangements.

If you need other special accommodations, please let us know.

Give us your signed permission, if you would like us to talk with someone (a parent, guardian, partner, or friend). Remember, we do not share any of your personal health information with friends or family without your permission.
